Girl struck by car dies

GARDAÍ have opened an investigation after a 16-year-old girl lost her life when she was struck by a car yesterday afternoon.

The teenager is understood to have been hit by the vehicle just before 5pm on Monday on the Celbridge to Leixlip road in Co Kildare.

She was struck by a car that was being driven by a man in his 20s.

Both individuals were taken to the nearby Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

However, while the driver of the vehicle only suffered what are understood to be minor injuries, the schoolgirl lost her life.

The collision occurred at an area known as the Celbridge interchange close to an Apple Green service station.

Gardaí have asked anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them at Celbridge Garda Station on 01-6012370.
