Africa Day celebrations begin

AFRICA Day celebrations in Dublin, Galway and Limerick kicked off with a street performance by African drummers and dancers in Dublin’s Temple Bar yesterday.

The 10-day programme to mark Africa Day 2011, is an initiative of the African Union, which celebrates African diversity, success and potential. In Ireland, Africa Day is supported by Irish Aid, the government’s programme for overseas development.

A spokesperson for Irish Aid said: “Our objective is to help build a more positive image of Africa.”
