Irish actress lands US role

IT HAS blood, it has sex, and now a magical Irish actress is set to make her debut in the new season of US smash hit TV series True Blood.

Irish actress lands US role

Cork-born actress Fiona Shaw has landed a plum role in the upcoming season of the show, which will debut in the US next month.

Ms Shaw will play Marnie, a medium and palm reader described as “mousy, timid and secretly self- loathing” who is taken over by the spirit of a powerful witch.

Ms Shaw’s character appears in the fourth book of The Southern Chronicles on which the show is based. Though the character was intended to be younger, the profile has been changed to fit the 52-year-old Cork actress.

True Blood is a HBO series depicting the co-existence of vampires and humans. The show has been a worldwide hit and has been critically acclaimed. The show has won several awards, including one Golden Globe and an Emmy.

Harry Potter fans will recognise Ms Shaw as Aunt Petunia in the film

The actress has been awarded several accolades for theatre and film performances, and is regarded as one of the finest classical actors of her generation.

She is the daughter of respected eye-specialist Dr Denis Wilson who passed away last month.
