Council confirms 30% of rate payers in arrears

THE distress being felt by businesses across Clare has resulted in arrears of €7.7 million in rates at the end of last year.

However, €1.9m of the massive arrears has been since paid to Clare County Council.

County manager Tom Coughlan said 30% of rate payers are in arrears. He confirmed that 86 customers owed €3m of the €7.7m at the end of 2010.
