Varadkar up every pole in Dublin West for poster ties
Yesterday Mr Varadkar posed in his shirtsleeves among a truckload of the cables that were brought for recycling.
He said he was keen to take a lead in a local project to improve the environment for visitors.
“After the election, my campaign team and I took it upon ourselves to remove all the cable ties from the lampposts around the area,” he said.
“So we have removed 10,000 cable ties altogether — not just Fine Gael ones, but all parties, and we are encouraging other people to do the same,” he said.
Mr Varadkar, who was speaking on RTÉ radio, said he was anxious people had a good impression of Ireland and thought it was a good idea that he set an example in his local area.
“We are really asking people to go out and help clean up their communities before the tourism season has begun,” he said.
A spokesperson for the minister pointed out that Mr Varadkar had removed cables from poles everywhere south of the N3 in Dublin West.
