Daughter of Fred Astaire to sell her Irish home

AN Irish link with Fred Astaire is to be severed, as the dance and movie star’s daughter Ava prepares to sell her Cork home.

Ava Astaire McKenzie and her husband Richard McKenzie moved from Beverly Hills to Castlepoint, near Schull in West Cork, a spot later visited by her father and other celebrities.

They raised two sons in rural, country bliss. This prompted Richard to write a book called Turn Left at the Black Cow, about their arrival in a place with no postal zip codes and a laid-back lifestyle.

Now they have put Clonlea Cottage, on 3.5 acres with a guest cottage and gardens, up for sale, as they’re moving to Palm Springs, Florida.

The couple hope to get €525,000 for the house.

“We feel the distance from our own kids and grandkids now, and putting it simply, we have just had too many birthdays. It is time for younger blood, a family or at least a couple of the age we were when we arrived on Midsummer’s Day in 1975,” they said.
