Father backs coroner’s call for speed limiters

A KERRY garage owner who fitted a speed-limiting device to his son’s car after he was caught breaking the legal limit has backed a coroner’s call for the mandatory fitting of limiters on all vehicles registered to motorists under 25 years of age.

Jim Stack said his son, Kieran, was one of the first young drivers in the country to volunteer to have the device fitted to his car to avoid a harsher penalty being imposed by a judge.

Kieran was 18 when he appeared before the local court where his father agreed to source and fit the limiting equipment, which was regularly tested by gardaí to ensure it could not be driven more than 100km/h.
