18th century magazine goes online

A SCIENCE and literary magazine titled Magazine of Magazines, which was produced in Limerick between 1751 and 1769, has been digitised.

18th century magazine goes online

The project was undertaken by members of the Eighteenth Century Research Group at the University of Limerick and Mary Immaculate College.

Prof Geraldine Sheridan, director of the group, noted: “In the middle of the 18th century, Limerick was a lively city in which trade in goods and services generated increased wealth, and with that a new demand for literary, scientific and cultural knowledge.

“The Magazine of Magazines, a fascinating and varied miscellany of new literary material and scientific information, was produced by local publisher Andrew Welsh to meet that demand… this was, for most of its life, an original Limerick production.

Funded by the HEA programme for research and the National Digital Learning Resource, the digitised versions are available free of charge, and fully searchable.
