Four out of five Irish people will not tune in to nuptials
Both RTÉ and TV3 are set to broadcast extensive coverage of the nuptials from early morning and the British television channels will be capturing every minute detail. Yet a survey of 100 people found not one intending to take the time off work to watch the ceremony and only 20% saying they could be bothered to watch it at all. The survey by Call Management also found that 100% of respondents said they would not like a royal family of their own.
Among those who will have to watch Friday’s ceremony on the television from the armchair will be former British Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Blair. Neither has received an invite even though their Tory counterparts Margaret Thatcher and John Major are on the guest list. Buckingham Palace said that, unlike Major and Thatcher, the former Labour premiers are not “Knights of the Garter”.
