Irish women have babies later and have more than those across EU

IRISH women start having babies later than those in the rest of the EU, but they have more babies than those in any other country, according to statistics published by the EU’s Eurostat and a directorate of the European Commission.

As a result, the country has the youngest population in Europe and the percentage of pensioners has decreased over the past two decades — the only EU country to experience this phenomenon.

This should be good news for the future of the country with the population forecast to increase by almost 50% to more than 6.5 million by 2050.
