PLANS for a major retail development in the west Clare town of Miltown Malbay have been thrown out by a local authority.

Clare County Council refused planning permission to Michael Gleeson and Jim Shannon for a two-storey supermarket and office development at New Line, Leagard South, Miltown Malbay.

The promoters anticipated the turnover of the proposed development, which faced local opposition, would be €11.2 million.
