THE economic and banking crises represent a “national emergency”, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said.

Speaking during a debate on the Programme for Government drawn up by Fine Gael and Labour, Mr Kenny said he was “under no illusions” about the scale of the challenge ahead.

He said he would not attempt to hide the problems from the public, and would instead be “open and truthful”.
