Waterford set for up 130 jobs with reopening of four pubs

UP to 130 jobs are to be created in Waterford thanks to an investment by an entertainment company in four pubs in the city centre.

The Dinn Ri leisure group already employs 130 people at its sprawling Dinn Ri premises in Carlow and bought four premises on Waterford’s John Street late last year.

All four venues closed when the Tweedy Group in Waterford went into receivership early in 2010, with the loss of almost 100 jobs.

The Dinn Ri group re-opened the Woodman Bar before Christmas and yesterday unveiled The Foundry nightclub, while the other two venues are due to open before the end of this year.

According to the Dinn Ri group, 130 staff will be employed to run the four venues with all of the jobs in the Woodman and The Foundry filled by local people. About 50 staff have been engaged during the construction process.

Company director Sean McLoughlin said they were delighted to be able to create the jobs in a “vibrant city” such as Waterford. “The trend across the country is for little investment and little development. We are excited to be making major investment in the Waterford area at this time.”

He was confident the new venues will be successful. “We believe having these state-of-the-art night clubs and bars will be good for the nightlife of the city.”
