Cigarettes worth €3m seized

SEVEN million contraband cigarettes worth €3 million have been seized by customs officials in Co Louth.

The cigarettes were found in an articulated truck on Wednesday after a surveillance operation.

Follow-up raids were carried out at two private premises in Donegal yesterday. Several people from both Donegal and Louth were questioned. The cigarettes were found in a 40ft container which arrived at Dublin Port from China via Rotterdam. A Revenue spokeswoman said investigations are continuing.
