THE AA wants the Government to cut fuel taxes. This is of course to ease the burden on motorists but it also has major effects on the broader economy.

Cutting excise duties would help get economy rolling again

An average car doing average mileage will use 150 litres of fuel per month, so Irish families now spend about €225 per month just to keep rolling. Hauliers and any business with a transport need are also suffering badly.

Fuel prices have never been higher. We are now paying an average of €1.50 per litre for petrol. This is an unwelcome psychological barrier in itself and it also has motorists asking how much worse it could get before it gets better.
