Brother of BoI chief Boucher features on tax defaulter list

Paul Boucher — a company director with an address in Ranelagh, south Dublin — is included on the list of 62 individuals and companies who settled with Revenue in the final quarter of 2010. Mr Boucher paid Revenue €40,000 relating to the under-declaration of income tax, with Revenue adding that it had undertaken an investigation into offshore assets. About €10,000 of Mr Boucher’s settlement related to tax, with the remainder made up of interest and penalties.

Of the 62 cases, 31 were for amounts in excess of €100,000 — of which seven were above €500,000 and two exceeded €1 million.

The latter two cases concerned the Co Limerick-based concrete manufacturer Gleeson Concrete, whose €7.65m settlement is the fourth-largest payment to Revenue in the last 10 years, and Co Meath-based quarry operator John Gallagher, who settled for €3m.

Ten settlements related to company directors, eight to farmers, six to builders and three to retailers.

Two landlords were also included — one listed as Humphrey Lynch of Coachford, Co Cork, with a €740,765 settlement over under-declared income tax and capital gains tax.
