THEY grandly quote Einstein’s “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow” in the foreword to the five-year plan for power — but in reality, Labour and Fine Gael would have been more honest referencing Kung Fu Panda’s motto: “Yesterday’s history, tomorrow’s a mystery,” given the parties rather causal attitude to target dates.

The 64-page Toward’s Recovery document could be subtitled “but only via fudgery”, as so many aspects have been left deliberately vague.

Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore have agreed to split their differences, and aim for reducing the deficit to 3% of GDP by the compromise date of 2015.
