A BETTING shop manager who was stabbed in a brutal attack in Limerick early yesterday had gone to assist a woman he believed needed help.

Brian Gleeson, aged 30, received a number of serious stab wounds, including one to the abdomen, and was last night said to be stable at the high-dependency unit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

Last night a man and a woman were arrested and were helping gardaí with their enquiries. A passerby found him bleeding heavily on the street and alerted the emergency services.
