Man on trial for abusing daughters
The 72-year-old man, who cannot be named, was sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court when he appeared before Clifden District Court in Co Galway yesterday.
The man, who has been remanded on continuing bail, is charged with a total of 72 charges of rape, indecent assault, buggery and sexual assault on dates between 1981 and 1995.
In total he faces 47 charges of indecent assault, 18 charges of rape, five charges of sexual assault and two of buggery.
Sgt. Tom Butler gave evidence yesterday of serving the book of evidence.
Judge Mary Fahy granted the man free legal aid and assigned one senior counsel and one junior counsel.
The pensioner was remanded on continuing bail of €3,000 and ordered to surrender his passport.
