Priest charged with indecent assault

At Mallow District Court yesterday, 73-year-old Daniel Duane, with an address at The Presbytery, Cecilstown, Mallow, Co Cork, was charged with indecently assaulting a woman in the Mallow area between September 1, 1980, and April 1, 1982.

He was further charged with assaulting another woman in the Mallow area between the same dates.

Detective Garda Colman Murphy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told Judge Michael Patwell the defendant replied ‘No’ to both charges.

The case was adjourned to April 5 at Mallow District Court. Inspector Senan Ryan said it was expected the preparation of the Book of Evidence would not take long.

The defendant was released on bail on his own bond of €500.
