In the leaders’ debate, Three Men In A Vote, a mismatched bickering trio attempt to navigate their way up a very unpleasant creek and argue about who can get the lost paddle back.

The Sinn Féin and Green captains had already been tossed overboard by RTÉ, and by the time the final encounter rolled around, Enda Kenny looked like he was sailing away with the election, Eamon Gilmore was struggling in the water, desperately trying to cling on to the Fine Gael leader in order to keep Labour’s head above water, while Micheal Martin had been slowly drowning throughout the campaign, despite a spirited attempt to try and stop the strong under-currents of hatred for the outgoing government pulling him under.
