POLICE in the North failed to carry out an effective investigation into a pub bombing in Northern Ireland which left 15 people dead, the Police Ombudsman said.

Investigative bias in the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) misled government into thinking the IRA was behind the attack on McGurk’s bar in north Belfast 40 years ago, Al Hutchinson added.

But police said other reports reached differing judgments on the initial investigation but none recorded investigative bias.
