Haven to cease Haiti building

HAVEN, the charity set up by Cork businessman Leslie Buckley, is ending its house-building work in Haiti.

The charity will carry out its last Build It Week in October this year. It said the earthquake, cholera outbreak, Hurricane Tomas and civil unrest have posed challenges for Haven and the logistical, financial, security and health and safety risks to the organisation and to volunteers are significant.

It said it is altering the way it operates and will work more with communities in Haiti.
