A GRIEF-STRICKEN young woman suffered further heartache on St Valentine’s Day when she received flowers and a card from her fiance — who had passed away last Friday.

Woman gets Valentine’s gifts three days after fiance’s death

Jason Brennan, a 31-year-old originally from Pairc Mhuire, Bagenalstown, died at his home in Loughminane Green, Kildare town, after he had an epileptic fit and fell down the stairs, while carrying a basket of washing.

Mr Brennan had proposed to his girlfriend Michelle Nolan from Kildare on St Valentine’s Day last year and the couple had only made the final arrangements for their wedding just over a week ago.

Described as a real romantic, Mr Brennan had told Ms Nolan not to arrive home on Monday until after 7pm as he had planned to cook a special meal for her. On Monday morning Ms Nolan was greeted by a delivery of flowers at the door which Mr Brennan had carefully planned last week. The couple had booked their wedding for next year at the Lord Bagenal Hotel in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow.

Mr Brennan was the only son of Phil and Michelle Brennan and brother of 26-year-old Aimee. He worked at the ModusLink computer factory in Kildare town. A year and a half ago he bought a home at Loughminane Green, with his fiancee.

Mr Brennan had suffered with epilepsy but hadn’t had a fit in the past three years.

His removal to St Andrew’s Church, Bagenalstown, took place last night. Requiem Mass takes place today with burial in the Cemetery of the Assumption, Bagenalstown, immediately afterwards.
