But if, as expected, he is the country’s next taoiseach he would have no problem with Germany’s ideas on raising the pension age, not linking wage increases to inflation and to making it illegal for the government to go into debt.
Mr Kenny said he reassured Ms Merkel that Ireland would stick to the target of reducing the government deficit to 3% by 2015, given the expected growth in the economy over the next few years.
