Traveller in his 30s killed in city shooting
The man was travelling in a car with a second person when they found the road obstructed by another car.
The two men ran from their vehicle in different directions. When the second man returned back to the car, he found his companion dead in a field.
A number of shots were fired at the man, one of which proved to be fatal.
It’s understood however that shots came from the bushes.
Gardaí arrived quickly at the scene and later arrested three men under Section 50 of the Offences against the State Act. The area has been cordoned off.
Two of the men are being held in Gurranabraher and one in Mayfield.
None of the three men arrested are members of the Travelling community. It’s understood that they live in the city and its outskirts.
The dead man was originally from Waterloo near Blarney but is now living in Carrigaline. He and his companion were driving towards their workplace, a scrap metal-type business.
The incident, which according to gardaí has all the sign of a pre-meditated attack, took place shortly before 4pm on the Glen Road at Waterloo, about six miles from Cork city on the Blarney to Grenagh Road.
