Greens pledge no income tax hikes

THE Greens have claimed they would ensure no further increases to income tax or additional cuts to social welfare if returned to power.

Laying out its stall on the public finances yesterday, the party insisted that the deficit could be reduced in “a way that is fair.”

During their time in government the Greens hiked taxes and slashed welfare payments in a bid to plug the black hole in the public purse.
