Travellers turn down 378 council houses

ONE sixth of all local authority housing offers to Travelling community members in 2008 and 2009 were rejected because of intimidation claims, family feuds and other personal reasons.

An unpublished Department of Environment report has claimed 378 offers out of 2,243 potential homes were not taken up during the two-year period.

According to the document, 52 families who rejected the possible moves did so because of “issues with neighbours” or other individuals set to benefit from the scheme.
