WHEN Mandy Hayden Freeman started to go into labour during a ferocious snow blizzard in early December, she knew she needed the help of the emergency services.

The then mother-of-one was expecting triplets and they weren’t due to be born for another two months.

“John alerted the emergency services in Waterford, but the rescue helicopter, based at the airport, was unable to take off owing to the snow storm. He then contacted two 4x4 vehicles, with a midwife on each and set out from Wexford General hospital accompanied by two fully manned ambulances,” said Mandy.
