Sporting chance as Limerick bags title

LIMERICK last night took on the mantle of European City of Sport for the coming year, the first Irish city to be accorded the honour.

The regional tourism organisation Shannon Development are using the brand to showcase Limerick around the world as a quality location for sports and conference events.

Speaking at the launch in Thomond Park, city mayor Maria Byrne said: “Limerick has a rich and proud sporting heritage and it is incumbent on everyone involved in sport to row in and help populate the calendar of events to make it a truly memorable year for the city and greater Limerick area.
