Claims VEC paid out €1.9m for unzoned land

CORK County Vocational Education Committee (VEC) is to be asked if it paid €1.9 million for land for new schools in Carrigaline which has not been zoned to accommodate them.

Standing orders were suspended at a county council meeting yesterday when Cllr Paula Desmond (Lab) raised what she described as “a very serious issue”.

“It is incumbent on us to debate this. I am told that Cork County VEC paid the money for lands which are not zoned, on the assumption they would be zoned,” Ms Desmond said.
