GARDAÍ say they are still liaising with the parents of twin babies who suffered serious head injuries two weeks ago and are now in the care of the state.

One of the three-month- old boys has stunned doctors by breathing on his own after being taken off a ventilator. He was taken off the machine at Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin on Tuesday and was still showing signs of improvement yesterday.

His brother is in a serious but stable condition at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
