THE Greens last night insisted it would be “unacceptable” to delay the looming general election beyond March.

Party leader John Gormley said remaining budget measures in the Finance Bill could be pushed through the Oireachtas to allow for the national poll.

Mr Gormley warned that to allow the timetable to slip further would not wash, but declined to say what measures the Greens would pursue if Fianna Fáil were to drag its feet.
