Competition stiff with no clear favourite for person of year award

THERE’s no clear favourite for the title of Cork Person of the Year but, according to the bookies, five people — including a sporting father and son — are definitely in the running.

Hollywood legend Maureen O’Hara will be guest of honour at the ceremony which takes place on Friday at Fota Island Hotel.

The Dublin-born actress who has an enviable string of all-time classics to her credit — including The Hunchback of Notre Dame, How Green Was My Valley, Miracle on 34th Street and The Quiet Man — is to have a legacy centre built to honour her in her adopted home of Glengarriff.
