AN ELDERLY father appeared before the High Court yesterday to plead for more time to allow his daughter, who is going through a marriage break-up, to make mortgage repayments to avoid having her house repossessed.

The pensioner asked for a stay of three months to be placed on an application by Stepstone Mortgage.

The man claimed the money owed was “not insurmountable” if the couple get back together. He informed Mr Justice Brian McGovern they were trying to get marriage counselling, while his daughter had also applied for rent assistance.
