AN Irish man has been charged in Britain over an alleged attempt to bring drugs through the Channel Tunnel.

Mikey Battles, 35, from Ballycasey, Limerick, was arrested on Tuesday at the entrance to the tunnel in France.

UK Border Agency officers said they searched an Irish-registered Mitsubishi Chariot and found 1kg of heroin and 10kg of cannabis. The drugs, believed to have a street value of around €40,600, were concealed in the door panels of the car.
