47 workplace deaths in 2010

MORE than half of all workplace deaths last year occurred on farms, a sharp increase on 2009.

Figures from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), show 25 people were killed on farms last year, more than double the 11 who died in 2009.

Fatal accidents in the construction sector fell to six in 2010 from 10 in 2009, while there were four deaths in fishing sector, an increase from two in 2009.
