Lissadell owners to continue right-of-way battle

AFTER spending more than €13 million on the 410-acre estate they bought in 2003, the owners of Sligo’s Lissadell House yesterday looked set to appeal a High Court decision that public rights of way exist across the historic grounds.

The proceedings, which lasted 58 days, were brought against Sligo County Council by barristers Constance Cassidy SC and Edward Walsh SC, who bought the estate for €4m and spent some €9.5m restoring it.

The couple sought declarations that four routes through the estate are not subject to any public rights of way while the council counter-claimed it was.
