FINANCE Minister Brian Lenihan said he looks back with pride on how he handled the economic crisis since he took office. He said he has done what none of his predecessors had to do and the Irish people were on his side.

“I am very proud of the work I have done in the last three and a half years. I have faced an extraordinary financial crisis in this country. No finance minister since the foundation of the state had to deal with an equivalent crisis.

“I have introduced four budgets and I think there is a huge acceptance among the Irish people of the steps that are needed now to ensure there is genuine and sustainable recovery in this economy,” he said.
