THE HSE has decided to split one of its key national directorate posts into two positions, meaning taxpayers will in future pay two salaries for a role currently covered by one.

In the lead-up to today’s savage budget cuts, it has emerged the national directorate of quality and clinical care will be split into separate positions.

Under the move, the post — set-up in mid-2009 and currently held by consultant haematologist Dr Barry White — will be split into national clinical programmes and a new risk, quality and clinical care directorate.
