Majority say down with the upper house

THE Seanad has few friends and the people want it closed down to save money.

More than three quarters believe the €25 million-a-year upper house of parliament is excessive in the current economic climate.

The perennial Seanad sideshow in political debate has never been resolved. Fine Gael proposed shutting it down in the 1980s but the plan was not backed.
