FOREIGN drivers are responsible for three times as many accidents as resident citizens and for a much higher percentage of speeding, according to EU figures.

But in most cases they get off scot free as local police have problems following up on the offences.

But from today transport ministers from the 27 EU countries are expected to agree that there are no borders behind which drivers can hide, especially if they are guilty of speeding, going through red traffic lights, not wearing seatbelts and drink driving.
