Cold spell set to continue

MET ÉIREANN says that the subzero temperatures of recent days will continue until the weekend.

Cold spell set to continue

Today will see hail, sleet and snow showers in eastern counties of Leinster as well as parts of east Munster, with an ongoing risk of thunderstorms on the coast. It will be brighter elsewhere with sunny spells and a few snow flurries.

“Tonight will be very cold with very severe frost and temperatures plummeting to between -3 and -10 degrees overnight. There will be some further snow showers in eastern coastal areas, but dry and clear elsewhere with freezing fog developing as winds fall very light,” a spokesman said.

It will be exceptionally cold tomorrow night with temperatures potentially rising slightly on Friday.
