ONE in 10 pregnant women have “no intention” of getting pregnant at the time they conceive, while very few babies are being breastfed for the recommended six-month period.

The findings are contained in the Government- funded Growing Up in Ireland study. Overall, the report shows Irish infants are doing well across key areas such as health, emotional and physical development.

However, some areas of concern are noted in relation to Ireland’s low breastfeeding rate.
