Elderly vulnerable: Help available

FREEZING temperatures over the next week could prove lethal for older people, charities have warned.

Age Action has urged people to keep in contact with older neighbours and family members for the duration of the cold spell which Met Éireann says could last until December 2. Older people are also asked to heat at least their main room and bedroom to 21C, dress in warm layers of clothing and take hot food and drinks.

Charity ALONE reminds people it has a scheme to help pay bills for Bord Gáis customers over 60 who are in financial difficulties.
