BRIAN Cowen became embroiled in a sexism row after telling Labour leader, Eamon Gilmore, to “rein in” his deputy, Joan Burton when she heckled him as he answered questions on the four-year plan.

Mr Cowen shouted across the floor of the Dáil chamber to Mr Gilmore: “Try and rein her in now and again” to which the Labour leader responded “Hold on now!”

Lucinda Creighton, FG, told the Taoiseach to apologise, which he did.
