Weather website hits the spot

THE country’s first dedicated weather news and long range forecast website is attracting unprecedented interest from around the world.

Irish Weather Online (IWO) is an independently run resource established by Co Clare man Mark Dunphy who describes it as a website run by weather enthusiasts for weather enthusiasts.

The site also features the latest news relating to the weather and climate in Ireland as well as weather-related video and imagery. Live weather conditions for more than 50 locations throughout the country are hosted on the site, courtesy of Ireland’s Weather Network.

The site has already been profiled on The Weather Channel in the US and, since going live last week, has received more than 12,000 visitors to the site via The Weather Channel alone.

Mr Dunphy said: “Each day our weather expert Peter O’Donnell takes an in-depth look at the coming week’s weather, providing Ireland’s most comprehensive daily long range weather outlook. Peter is a climatologist living in Canada specialising in long range weather forecasts for Ireland and Britain.”

The new site also features lightning reports from Ireland, real-time weather conditions in cities all over the world, and a timeline of extreme weather events down through Irish history.

* Weather Online also hosts a Live Chat forum enabling visitors to engage with other weather enthusiasts on issues of the day.
