Three die in crashes on road safety weekend

The 27-year-old woman who died early yesterday in a single vehicle accident outside Lixnaw, Co Kerry, was named locally as Louise McKenna, the mother of a six-year-old boy. She was remembered in prayers at Masses in the area yesterday.

Her partner, Michael Conway, a well-known Kerry and Lixnaw hurler and a Labour Party candidate for Kerry County Council in the 2009 local elections, was driving the car which hit a tree a short distance outside Lixnaw. Four people were taken to hospital after the accident on the road to Abbeydorney at about 3.30am.
