Photos capture the coast

THE six winning photographs in a competition to show off some of the country’s most stunning coastlines will be put on display across the country.

The winner in the U18 category of the An Taisce Clean Coast Photography Awards was Gearoid Gibbs for his shot of Curracloe Beach, Co Wexford, on a spring morning. Andy McInroy clinched the over-18 category for his dramatic photograph of sea swells around Fanad Lighthouse in Co Donegal.

Annabel McLoone, Blue Flag and Green Coast awards manager, said there was huge interest in the competition.

“Over 500 photographs were entered illustrating the vast character of our coastline, from Fanad in Donegal to the Skelligs,” she said.

The competition had a prize fund of €3,000. The winning photos will be showcased at art venues across the country, along with eight runners-up.
