Call centre firm cannot fill vacancies

A CORK-BASED company specialising in business process services has said that it cannot fill job vacancies because not enough people are applying to work there.

Call centre firm cannot fill vacancies

Speaking at a careers fair at Cork’s Clarion Hotel yesterday, SouthWestern chief executive Stephen Hegarty said that the company had a range of positions to fill but that they were not receiving enough CVs from interested jobseekers.

“We currently have 40 vacancies… and we are looking for people from entry level right up to network administrators. We are one of the biggest employers in West Cork but we are not getting enough CVs sent into us to fill the positions.

“It is our intention to get 40 people off the live register and trained for working in the contact centre sector before Christmas, so we would encourage people that are interested to visit our website.”

Mr Hegarty added that the training being made available would also benefit a potential employee looking for work in a variety of customer service industries.

Blackrock-based company VoxPro Communications, which provides call-centre services, was also at the career fair recruiting technical support specialists and employees for its telesales team to coincide with the companies rapid expansion.

The two-day career seminar, which is being hosted by CCMA Ireland Skillnet, is offering a range of workshops including CV preparation and interview skills for jobseekers hoping to break into the contact centre sector.

Advice on nationally accredited training programmes in the contact centre sector and opportunities for interview with local Cork companies is also available.

Chief executive of CCMA, Dorothy O’Byrne, said that there is a huge demand for workers in the contact centre sector in Ireland.

“In the current environment, there is a need for multi-lingual speakers to join the contact centre sector, but there are also plenty of opportunities for people who want to work in areas such as HR or training.”

* The career roadshow continues today from 10am to 4pm at the Clarion Hotel in Cork city.
